Copy data sprawl will cost companies $50 billion by 2018.
Learn more about the copy data problem from IDC
Copy data includes anything from a backup or DR copy to a snapshot for data protection. It also includes analytics copies as well as copes for IT operations like patch testing and sand boxing and copies for test/dev. This excessive copy sprawl is fueling data growth and will cost businesses over $50 billion in storage and protection by 2018.
This explosion of copy data is being driven by the move to self service, which drives siloes of copy creation across the enterprise without global oversight. This has led to 82% of businesses having at least 10 copies of any one production instance of data.
